The Main Purpose of Prayer

Andrew Wommack “But I’m telling you we’ve got to come back to just thanking God for what you have. And if you would just fellowship with the Lord and love Him, I guarantee you the joy of the Lord would be your strength. Praise is strength to still the enemy and the avenger. You abound in faith with thanksgiving (Colossians chapter two, verse seven). And on and on it goes. It’s just a powerful thing. If we would start just enjoying the Lord, fellowshipping with Him, you wouldn’t have as many problems. And the problems that you have wouldn’t be that big of a deal, Just not that big of a deal. In the light of eternity, what does it matter? Most of the stuff we deal with is just not that important. So I encourage you to recognize that the real purpose of prayer is not to get stuff from God, even thought that is a part of it, but the main purpose of prayer is just to worship God, to bless God, to love God, to be a pleasure unto Him. And when you do that, God’ll never let you out give Him. He will bless you back more than you ever bless Him. If you go to thanking Him, He is going to give you so much more stuff to thank Him for because He just loves, He inhabit the praises of His people. He will bless you more than you ever thought of accidently than you ever got on purpose before asking and begging. Man that’s good news! I encourage you today to receive that and to just start making the main thing the main thing. Put prayer as ‘Father, I want to know you. I want to bless you. You’ve given so much to me, I want to bless you.'”

“Then [Ezra] told them, Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet drink, and send portions to him for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. And be not grieved and depressed, for the joy of the Lord is your strength and stronghold.”

Which Do You Value Most, Your Opinion or God’s?

Andrew Wommack referencing a conversation he had with a woman who believed in God yet was in support of social moral issues which explicitly conflict with scripture, “….explain to me how you can say that you are a Christian, that you love God, and yet you believed in all these things that are completely contrary to what the Bible says?” Her response, “….I was a Christian and I loved God, but I did not love the Word of God,…I didn’t honor the Word of God, I didn’t respect the Word of God,….when I came to Bible college and I began to realize the importance of the Word,…now that changed everything”.

Andrew Wommack “There may be some people here who say that you’re a Christian and yet you believe in things that are completely contrary to the Word. You could be a Christian and still not have the right value system, but you can’t fear God to where you trust in Him and exalt His opinion above your own. You can’t fear God and still embrace these principles that are completely contrary to the Word of God,…the fear of God will cause you not to be wise in your own eyes, but instead exalt the Word of God”.

“O Lord, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps. O Lord, correct me, but with judgment; not in thine anger, lest thou bring me to nothing.”

The Fear of the Lord

Andrew Wommack “Fearing the Lord is basically just trusting God….If you fear God you’re going to exalt His opinion above anybody else’s opinion.”

“You who [reverently] fear the Lord, trust in and lean on the Lord! He is their Help and their Shield.”

~~~Psalm 115:11 (AMPC)~~~
“Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; reverently fear and worship the Lord and turn [entirely] away from evil.”
Threefold Cord of a Godly Marriage
“Your marriage cannot really excel greater than your relationship with God. If you have a sorry relationship with God, you are going to be a sorry partner,…God never intended marriage to function independent of Him” Andrew Wommack.
“Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken.”
Hearing From God, Quality & Quantity Time
“You’ve got to start spending time in the presence of God listening to your heart and listening to God speak to you. God does not work like a microwave, amen. You can’t microwave your miracle. You need to sit in the presence of God” Andrew Wommack.
“My son, attend to my words; consent and submit to my sayings. Let them not depart from your sight; keep them in the center of your heart. For they are life to those who find them, healing and health to all their flesh. Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life.”
“Hypocrites Love To Pray”
“Your sins were forgiven when you got born again. God is not holding your sins against you. The only thing that is holding up the answer to your prayer is our unbelief because we feel so unworthy. We are empowering the devil. We are allowing our conscience to condemn us. And we don’t have the confidence and the courage and the authority that God has bought for us through Jesus. And we are approaching Him like a lost man that doesn’t have a savior.
We pray in the name of Jesus, but the truth is we actually believe that it’s going to be according to our goodness. And so all somebody’s got to do is say ‘Hey, you’ve committed sin. You haven’t studied the Word the way that you should. What makes you think you’re worthy?’ And all of a sudden your total confidence just crumbles because your faith wasn’t in God, it was in you.
If you pray and use the name of Jesus properly, what you’re saying is ‘Father, not because of who I am, but in Jesus’ name. I expect to receive because of Jesus’. You know the scripture says ‘Agree with your adversary quickly while you’re in the way.’ And there’s multiple ways of applying that, but one of the ways I apply it is when the devil comes and says ‘you aren’t worthy. What makes you think God would use you?’
Instead of me trying to justify myself and say ‘wait a minute, I’ve studied the Word more than I ever have, I’ve been praying, I’ve studied, I’ve fasted, I…’ The moment you start justifying yourself and trying to make yourself worthy, Satan has won because you may be better than you were, you might be better than I am, but you have come short of the glory of God and you do not deserve any answers to prayer based on your goodness.
The right way to respond is when your enemy comes and condemns you, agree with your adversary and say ‘you know what, you’re right. I don’t deserve anything. I think I’ll pray in the name of Jesus. And I’ll get it through who Jesus is. I’ll get it on the basis of His righteousness. I’m standing holy not because I am holy in myself, but because I am born again righteous and holy’.
See that’s using the name of Jesus properly, but if you say ‘in the name of Jesus’ but you’re saying ‘God, I’m worthy, God, I’ve prayed, I’ve done more than ever before, now will You move?’ You have just used the name of Jesus in vain. You aren’t trusting in Jesus, you’re trusting in yourself and you’re taking the name of Jesus in vain” Andrew Wommack.
“Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations”.
