MARRIAGE STANDING

Moving On With My Life, NOT!

“We’ll all get over our divorce” is such a well intended yet foolish statement made by a person who either doesn’t really have a clue about the devastations of divorce, doesn’t really care about the devastations of divorce, or wants to merely pretend to themselves and those closest to them, especially the children (no matter the ages) involved that divorce has no destructive repercussions. Have you honestly stopped to take a good look ALL around you!?!

How I wish I had a dollar for every time someone has said to me that I just needed to get on with my life. I especially remember hearing this early on and wondering just what it was they were telling me to move on from. Crazy as it sounded then and still does, those who had my best interest at heart were trying to introduce me to someone nice, someone good looking, someone wealthy, someone whatever,…Often this was done all the while vehemently listing all my husband’s narcissistic tendencies, why he could not be trusted ever again, how he was incapable of changing, how he isn’t deserving of me,…even how my being revengeful is justified. Don’t think so. And yes, change happens all the time and can be a good thing, a very good thing.

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” 2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV).

Honestly, our son has already been through more than enough with our marital issues to put him “on the couch” for many years to come, without me messing with his head and heart even more by turning my back on my husband, his father, by getting on with my life for selfish reasons no less. I know in my heart of hearts that my amazing husband is going through a transformational process, just as I have, and will soon be home. I am committed until my last breath, if need be, to stand for the healing and restoration of not just our marriage, but of our family as well.

“Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee” Deuteronomy 31:6 (KJV).

What we have been through is akin to a very painful death, grieving must take place. So while it is the death of the destructive aspects of our marriage, it is not the death of our marriage, but the rebirth as new life will emerge from the ashes as our marriage and family slowly, but surely heal and are restored to better than before. Yep, I still do love my husband and take our wedding vows very seriously. Why on earth would I want to be selfish and get on with my life!?!

“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance” 2 Peter 3:9 (KJV).

Trusting in the Lord, Humility vs Pride

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart,…Trust in the Lord with all your heart, say this out loud with me, humility, that’s what that is. Lean not to your own understanding. Well what if you’re leaning on your understanding, pride. You think you can do it, without the help,…” Keith Moore.

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

Faith, the Real Stuff

“Now sometimes in churches, unfortunately there is a lack of faith. Faith only comes one way, by hearing, and hearing what? the Word of God. So faith doesn’t come by emotion, faith doesn’t come sometimes when people are in churches and so forth, there’s a lot of emotion, a lot of sensation, faith doesn’t come by talking about politics and so forth, faith doesn’t even come by people trying to expound theology. You’ll find that even if you, I want to qualify that, I’m just saying that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Once you get the word of God, for you to get faith, you’re going to have to move from information to revelation. And once you move to revelation, faith cometh on that level. And so you’ll find when revelation decreases so does faith, and so God want us to go from faith to faith to faith to faith. Say amen to that” Dr. Bill Winston .

“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

The Boomerang Effect of Love Overflowing

“Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven; give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”

~~~Luke 6:37-38 (ESV)~~~
“Don’t pick on people, jump on their failures, criticize their faults—unless, of course, you want the same treatment. Don’t condemn those who are down; that hardness can boomerang. Be easy on people; you’ll find life a lot easier. Give away your life; you’ll find life given back, but not merely given back—given back with bonus and blessing. Giving, not getting, is the way. Generosity begets generosity.”
What Do You Treasure Most?
“Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness! No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”
By Their Fruits You’ll Know
“Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.”
Hearing From God, Quality & Quantity Time
“You’ve got to start spending time in the presence of God listening to your heart and listening to God speak to you. God does not work like a microwave, amen. You can’t microwave your miracle. You need to sit in the presence of God” Andrew Wommack.
“My son, attend to my words; consent and submit to my sayings. Let them not depart from your sight; keep them in the center of your heart. For they are life to those who find them, healing and health to all their flesh. Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life.”
INSPIRATIONAL
Bragging Rights, Your Testimony
Do you have bragging rights as a Christian? And do you take advantage of these rights? Do you tell others of God’s glorious goodness in your life? Or,…are you ashamed, embarrassed, fearful of what others will think of you? Is what others may or may not actually think of you, based on your testimony, more important to you than sharing God’s goodness with them?
“The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe” Proverbs 29:25 (ESV).
What I have discovered over the years is just how camouflaged our real feelings actually are. Oftentimes the impression others give us, is seriously not what is truly in their heart of hearts. Yes, we spend so much energy being busy, careful to avoid those quiet and contemplative moments for fear the silence will overtake us, forcing us to actually give thought to what is truly important.
“For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation” Psalm 62:1 (ESV).
And, what I have also discovered is just how much I am quietly being observed by those seeking a closer relationship with the Lord. Oh, sometimes they don’t even realize it is actually a closer relationship with God they are seeking. Sometimes it is merely a curiosity, wondering just what it is about me that is different. Sometimes I am asked just how I can remain so calm in the midst of my circumstances.
“Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” Philippians 4:5-7 (ESV).
I remember my husband and I being in Nanyuki, Kenya several years ago. Our African friends liked to refer to us Americans as wazungu, a Swahili term meaning going in circles. You see, their concept of time was much more relaxed than ours. The important question to ask when planning on meeting up later was, is that your time or my time, for their time was definitely not ruled by the clock. The point is they lived a much slower and quieter, more relaxed lifestyle than we Americans who thought being productive meant constant motion. And, this relaxed pace afforded them the beyond valuable opportunity to be contemplative and to really hear from God.
“Return, O my soul, to your rest; for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you” Psalm 116:7 (ESV).
Do I have life all figured out? No, but will continue to lay claim to what the Scriptures say,
“Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure” Philippians 2:12-13 (ESV).
It is this wonderful and glorious Truth which gives me the boldness to humbly say yes, I have bragging rights and will not remain silent, but will share my testimony of God’s goodness. For this I am eternally grateful.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” John 3:16 (ESV).
Do Others See Jesus In You?
“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.”
Fear Not! Jesus Is Risen! Go & Tell!
“And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.”
